Konono No. 1 on the Santa Monica Pier

Konono No. 1 plays the Santa Monica Pier. The first concert of the year didn't feel much like summer, as you can tell from the attire on the ladies on the right.

The 2010 Twilight Dance Series on Santa Monica Pier is already in full swing. Konono No. 1 - a Congolese Trance ensemble - kicked off the concerts in July. At each show I go for great shots of the band as well as people in the audience having fun. I also keep an open mind as to what could make a great shot. Keeps me on my toes! As you can see above, the cool weather on the night of the first concert didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.

Los Angeles Cultural Photo Tour

March 15th, 2010 km No comments

March 15, 2009

Where the Walk of Fame begins. On February 28, I was invited as part of a group of photographers to spend the day atop a double decker Starline Tours bus and drive around Los Angeles taking of the landmarks most of us have almost stopped noticing - and some I’d never really noticed in the first place…

A couple of my favorites are below. To more photos, please click here.

You can see highlights from the tour from all the tour’s photographers by clicking here. It’s interesting to see how so many people can go photograph the same things, and yet each photo is unique.

Enjoy!

The Diana Lens for DSLR

March 3rd, 2010 km 2 comments

I’ve been really into this Diana Lens I picked up recently. I got a 38mm lens and a Nikon mount, so I could put it on my Nikon D700 DSLR - and it is so much fun. Sure, it isn’t really Lomography, but it gives me the flexibility I’m used to, with an added element of fun.

There are many different Lomography cameras. The Diana lens, as you might expect, is usually found on a Diana camera, which is a medium format film camera made almost entirely of plastic - that includes the lens. Here’s Tuna with his special edition Tokyo Rising Diana:
