The Wind Cried “Mary”

November 11th, 2011 km No comments

Photography and music. Light and sound. Heads and tails.

The wind is music, too. I want to photograph the wind.

I finally understand the desire to throw a big bash for a one year old’s birthday. Now I see that it’s as much about taking a moment to celebrate the fact that you’ve made it through all those “first firsts” (and everyone has lived to tell about it) as it is about cake and ice cream and pony rides. A whole year of being responsible for a little human’s well-being - we did it! I can’t say we made it look easy, but we had more fun than we ever knew we could.

Happy Birthday, my little nugget. We love you!

Don't look down, look up

Don't look down, look up

Lots of changes since my last post. New baby (it’s a boy!), new city, new iPhone. I could write for days about everything that’s happened in the last few months. But I’d rather just pick up and get back to posting photos. If you want to see photos of my baby (he’s REALLY adorable and I love him to pieces!), I understand, but this isn’t the forum for that.

And I mention the iPhone because it has come in really handy lately. I’m taking way more photos than I used to, and not just because I’m the proud mother of the cutest baby EVER. As Mr. Chase Jarvis says, the best camera is the one you have with you…so true, so true. Not only that, when it comes to the iPhone and all the photo apps available, there are so many fun things you can do with your pics. Knowing this little camera is in my pocket or purse is really freeing. I am having more fun with photography than I can remember having in the last 10 years, and that’s no lie.

For example, I’ve become slightly obsessed with Instagram. I love the square crop format and faux tilt-shift effect you can selectively apply. And just today I discovered PS Express for iPhone. I’m not tied into the square (or any other) crop, and you can apply basic changes to exposure, contrast, saturation, etc. I’m still getting to know it, but you’ll see some early offerings on my Facebook page.

It’s good to be back!

Tuesday is the day I go to singing class at Culver City Adult School. I’ve been in and out of the class for a few (read: MANY) years now. I call it singing class, but really it’s a musical performance class. Each week students get up and perform solo pieces that they’ve prepared, as assigned by our inimitable teacher, Cathy Gabrielle Wallace. I also study with Cathy privately.
